Dua Lipa Taught Us How To Do Wedding-Appropriate Hyper-Glamour.

It’s peak wedding season. The time of year when we’re inundated with photos of safe bridesmaids’ dresses. Thankfully, Dua Lipa recently delivered a strong rebuttal to such conservative notions. The star rocked a space-age look that included metallic knee-high boots, a lavender sleepwear-as-daywear slip dress, and a beaded handbag. And who says you should never upstage the bride?

Dua Lipa wore a dress, gloves, and boots from the fall 2022 Bottega Veneta collection (the first from the brand’s new creative director Matthieu Blazy) plus a yet-to-be-released handbag also from Bottega Veneta to complete her look. Dua Lipa also sported a pair of early aughts-inspired sunglasses from GCDS eyewear to complete the maximalist look.

Dua’s Instagram post featured a photograph of the distinctive guest wear she wore while posing for Vogue June ‘s cover, only moments before she met at Paris’s Fashion Week in Balenciaga’s haute couture presentation. That day, she donned a gleaming, radiant sunbeam yellow dress.

Despite being a controversial style choice, unapologetic bold and risqué dressing is on the rise. Kendall Jenner inadvertently highlighted this fact when she wore a cut-out dress with a lot of negative space last year. However, there was nothing to worry about; Jenner later revealed that she sought the bride’s approval before wearing the fun look.

Paris Hilton wore her own daring cut-out dress at Britney Spears‘s previous marriage partner, Sam Asghari’s, wedding. While longstanding it-girl Chlo Sevigny turned convention on its head by wearing three wedding looks from Glenn Martin’s Jean Paul Gaultier haute couture collection, Loewe by Jonathan Anderson, and Casey Cadwallader’s Mugler.

After years of being restricted and limited by COVID, it is no surprise that many couples are opting for bigger and better weddings. Clearly, some guests are just as eager as the couple to make a statement on such an important day.
